Promo: The Magic Mirror

Juventas New Music Ensemble will be presenting an interpretation of Snow White this weekend, Polina Nazaykinskaya’s The Magic Mirror.  Based on the version of the fairytale by Alexander Pushkin, the story is a classic that has been adapted for contemporary audiences. In this version of the tale, the seven dwarfs have been replaced with seven brothers and the Evil Queen’s perspective promises to be explored.

Lidiya Yankovskaya is the music director and the set and costume designs are by the Moscow-based artist, Varvara Sosedova, whose other work can be found here: http://www.saatchionline.com/profile/153798.

Juventas New Music Ensemble was founded in 2005.  It has seven core musicians and has showcased 100 composers.  Their recent honors include The American Prize for Best Professional Opera Production (2012) and the National Opera Association Award for Best Professional Production (2011). With the help of New Dynamic Records, they will be producing a full album by young composers this season.

Polina Nazaykinskaya’s The Magic Mirror will only be playing this weekend at the Boston Center for the Arts Plaza Theater.  It will be performed in Russian with English translations above the stage.  Starting May 30th, there will be an 8pm show each evening with a matinee at 3pm on June 1st.
